There are plenty of Mahou shoujo (Magical girl) series out there and Cardcaptor Sakura isn't any different although it really is much more than a magical girl series. Its probably because of this, that Cardcaptor Sakura became a fan favorite. But there is another magical girl series that can be compared to Cardcaptor Sakura, because of its innocence, a talking "stuffed" animal and a rival that later on became a very dear friend and this is the very cute anime called Hime-chan no Ribon... Would you like to see how they compare? Yes, I know you do.

This is Himeko, whose nickname is "Hime-chan" and Daichi. A boy who didn't like her at first and would make fun of her and would call her a tomboy.

Hime-chan has powers to make herself a mirror of someone else because of a magical ribbon. Her powers only last for an hour. Long enough to help someone in need. She has a stuffed toy lion named "Pokota" that comes to life to be her guide/guardian.

This is Sakura and Syaoran. He didn't like her at first either and would make fun of her because of her weak fighting skills. She too, has magic.

Sakura also has a "stuffed" animal that acts as her guide. His name is of course, Kerberos but he really isn't a stuffed animal though because he is the "Great Guardian Beast" (but also looks like a lion in real form).

The Boys and their Magical Girls

1) Both Sakura and Hime-chan are somewhat similar in looks
2)Both have short hair that are the same length as their guys ^_^
3)Both are very Genki
4) Syaoran and Daichi were mean to their girls in the beginning
5) Then... suddenly, they both began to grow feelings for their ladies ^_^
6) During the end of the series, both Syaoran and Daichi had to leave their ladies behind ^_^
7) Both Sakura and Hime-chan ran after their guys and "confessed" their feelings... Hime-chan said she loved Daichi when his family's car was driving away... (Did Daichi hear her?) Sakura meanwhile asked Syaoran for the bear he made. (In the maga though she did run after that airport bus he was riding on)
8) Both Syaoran and Daichi came back after going away... Syaoran came back from Hong Kong... Daichi just moved a town away but he was willing to ride his bike 40 minutes to and from school, everyday so he could be in the same school as Hime-chan.
9) Both Sakura and Hime-chan don't really transform into anything special. None change into superhero costumes like many Magical girls do (like Sailormoon obviously and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne)
10) Sakura and Hime-chan were both in love with an older guy in the beginning. But then fell in love with their sort of rival in the end.
11 Both girls had a crush on an older student... and these particular older students liked their older simbling instead ^_^
12) Both girls proved who their most important person really was in the end. Hime-chan in the last episode and Sakura in the movie.

Sakura: I love you Syaoran-kun, you're my Number #1...
Hime-chan: I love Daichi. Really Love him...

These are just a few similarities. There are a lot more, believe me. But this is just to show how much Sakura and Hime-chan and Daichi and Syaoran are similiar to each other. And how much Hime-chan no Ribon and Cardcaptor Sakura are similar to each other. Hardly anyone knows about Hime-chan no Ribon even though it is one of the best Magical Girl series ever. It came out in 1992/1993 more than 5 years before the anime of Sakura ever came out. But it is still favored by many who like this kind of genre. It's very cute, much like Sakura... and perfect for everyone who likes a good "wholesome" story now and then (Angel Sanctuary anyone?).

Although Sakura has many other aspects to it that Hime-chan no Ribon doesn't have, they still pocess, like I said in the beginning, a very innocent air to them that makes you want to be ten again and just have fun.
