Why call it "Not Forgotten"?
So, why did I name this site "Not Forgotten"?... Well, because of many reasons. The first reason is the manga and the anime of Touch, itself. Like I have mentioned many times before, Touch is a great story that was written more than 20 years ago. I think it trully is one show that can stand the test of time. It's a coming of age story that years from now, we can still relate to. It's sort of like
The Catcher in the Rye. J.D. Salinger wrote that story in the 1940's. Yet, when you read it, although it is outdated in some parts... it's still a story that we can relate, that we can understand and we experienced.
Now Touch is very different from The Cather in the Rye obviously but it's also something we can relate to. The feelings of love and loss, the thrill of playing in a competition, the agony of defeat, the feeling of just being a kid. It's all there. Adachi Mitsuru really captured those feelings no matter how ordinary they are. Because of this reason, a story like Touch should "not be forgotten"... There will always be new stories out there, new anime for us to watch with more action, more hot bishounen, more of everything... and they get popular but there's just something about Touch that will get to you. It's very honest and realistic. And unlike many stories out there, especially stories that are in the shoujo category... it's not at all cliche. It's just real. You can't forget it because it's universal, it's your life, it's my life... and it's right there in front of us. I don't know any other manga/comic that deals with high school life that's as real as Touch. It's probably why that though the story is old, the anime and the manga are still mentioned in every list as being one of the best.
And another reason why I named this site "Not Forgotten" is the character of Tatsuya. I've mentioned it many times before also but he truly is my favorite character. He is far from perfect but there's just something about him. He lives his life in this very nonchalant way, like he doesn't care at all and he hides his talents and true heart so well that people mistake him for someone that's not him at all. He understands people so well and when it's time for him to step up he's right there in front of you. He does it many times for Minami, to Kazuya, even to Koutarou. Yet, because of the past... he is always overshadowed in the beginning by Kazuya. Because Kazuya was the nice guy, the smart guy, the competitive guy, the great baseball player... while Tatsuya is just there... forgotten in the midst of his brother's popularity. But it's him... all along that had the talents. It is him that is understanding, it is him that is great at baseball, it is him that is so nice that you just have to say "awwww"... I can't really explain it in a few words but just reading and watching how Tatsuya progresses in the manga and the anime you just have to smile. When he gave Koutarou those buns with 500 yen in the bag, and how he spent his entire months salary to buy Kazuya a new glove... that just did it for me. Then when he made Minami smile after Kazuya made her cry... you just have to like him. He's definitely no one to be forgotten you know? Just like Minami said once before...
Because it was Tacchan, I can be myself... ....
