Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou

KareKano is a shoujo anime. Let's just say that first of all. I tend to like Shoujo anime more than any other genre mainly because I'm a girl and I like mushy, mushy romance ^_^... Anyway, this anime was produced by Gainax and was directed by Anno Hideaki, who also wrote the sript like he did with Evangelion. The manga was written by Masami Tsuda and it is still running in Lala comics. A lot of people were disappointed that the anime ended so short because they all wanted to know what happened next.... But were glad that the manga continued the story line.

Anyway, KareKano is centered around 15 year old high school student, Miyazawa Yukino. Yukino is a very admired girl in her school. People would be awed by her beauty, her poise, her "perfectness". She's the total model student with great looks to boot. BUT it's all a lie... In reality, she's really spoiled, competitive and vain. At home, she's the total opposite of her perfect school self. She strives for the compliments of others. She wants to be praised and admired all the time because it makes her feel good. And through out most of her life, she has been getting what she wanted... UNTIL a boy named Arima Souichirou came along...

Souichirou is also a model student. When he came along, everyone started to pay more attention to Arima-kun instead of Yukino. Mainly because he was smart, nice, a great kendo fighter and let's not forget, he has that cuteness factor too. And Yukino HATED him because he was taking all the attention that she had been getting for so long. So she tried to do as much as she can to defeat him and make him squirm... Yukino's rants and ramblings and imagination are so funny... You just got to see it. I love how almost everyone turns chibi like every 5 minutes or so....

What Yukino didn't know until later on though was that Souichirou was hinding his real self too. That he was also fake and was just wearing a mask to hind behind. That in reality, he feels that he HAS to be a model student and a person so as not to be seen as "worthless" to his adoptive family.

Ok, I'll stop there ^_^... I hope it sounded interesting to you all and I hope you check it out. The show is very funny and realistic. It shows real situations that we all experience in high school. You know, that first kiss, that first date, that first time... Those moments when all you can think about was your boyfriend or girlfriend and because of that your grades start to drop... KareKano explores all these things and I haven't seen a shoujo anime yet, to show all that. And that's why I was so happy to discover this great series.

You can also tell that this was Anno's work. Although it's a WHOLE lot different from Evangelion, there are several things in this anime that would make you think you were watching Evangelion. Like live action sequences, the eye catches, the words that appear in certain scenes to emphasis that certain scene even more. Even the use of symbolism.... And most of all, the last episodes of KareKano share a similarity to the last episodes of Evangelion....

This anime is in a lot of people's favorites list because it's different. I have yet to know of someone that doesn't like this series... I really love the ending shots too because the camera goes around the empty hallways of a Japanese high-school. And each episode its different. So sometimes you really get the feel that you're in a real high-school or something. ^_^ And for those of you who've seen it, don't you think Yukino's parents look similar to an older version Shinji and Asuka? Well, I do...
