Ayashi no Ceres

I just want to warn you folks that there are spoilers here...

First, I do have to admit that Watase Yuu images are rather pretty. She can certainly draw much better than many manga-ka anyday... And I also have to admit that the story of Ayashi no Ceres can beat Fushigi Yuugi anyday also. Fushigi Yuugi never really appealed to me. As I mentioned sometimes, I do like Tasuki and Nuriko. Chichiri is a rather cool character and Nagako is a great villian. BUT... I NEVER liked her female characters. Her lead female characters are so typical air heads. I just want to slap Watase-sensei sometimes so she can realize that girls like Miaka and Aya of Ayashi no Ceres are NOT the type of girls that should be considered as heros. Aya is a slut. I'm sorry to say. She sleeps with a guy that she hardly knows (she only knew TOOYA for a day or so)... a guy whose not even "real" in a way, a guy that eventually leaves her... and then she ends up getting pregnant and all alone at 16! And the guy that really shows a great deal of caring for her doesn't even come into her mind because she's so in love with this other person. Ugghh... It makes me sick. I really hate characters like Aya and Miaka. They are so unrealistic and stupid that it makes me puke. But that is just me of course. I really REALLY hate her female characters and I know some are Ayashi no Ceres fans here, so forgive me for this rant. It's because of the characteristics of Aya and Miaka that make most girls hate them. That's why there are many "I hate Miaka" sites everywhere. I'm so surprised that there isn't any "I hate Aya" shrines out there either. Her FEMALE characters are so lame. I hate it. I hate it. And EVERYONE falls in love with Aya even though she's the most stupid character there is in Ayashi no Ceres. Even her own twin brother falls in love with her... (grant it, it's because of certain circumstances but still...) Watase is female herself. I always wonder why she can't write strong woman characters that would make any woman proud. It's even sadder that male writers and male manga-ka can write stronger female characters than she can.

Like Adachi Mitsuru for example (Touch, Slow Step), Fujishima Kousuke, Akamatsu Ken and even the great weirdo Anno Hideaki. All created female characters that actually have the guts and nerves and most of them aren't total sluts like Aya is. Oi! @_@... What am I writing about?

Anyway, back to Ayashi no Ceres... one of the only rasons why I do like Ayashi no Ceres in a way is because of Yuuhi and his sister in law Suzumi. Now Suzumi is a pretty strong woman. One of the very few characters of Watase's that aren't slutty nor dumb. She's great. And Yuuhi? Well he sort of looks like Aki... and he does fall prey to the cliche of "let's all fall in love with the dumb slutty girl"... But I like him. He's pretty cool. And I like how Ceres has this thing for him. He's sort of the "comic relief" but he's definetely not one to be forgotten.

Ok, so I didn't really give you any sort of explanation of what Ayashi no Ceres is about but oh well. All in all, despite the characters of Aya and Tooya who are so annoying and cliched, I do like the plot sort of. It's darker than Fushigi Yuugi and at least Aya doesn't make your ears bleed in every episode calling out for "Tamahomeeeeeeee". There are some pretty hot bishounen here. Aki is one of them and even their uncle is kinda cute although he tried to rape Aya one time @_@... Ceres is a lot better than Aya anyday. And well, Tooya needs to get rid of that ugly belly shirt he always has on. Just not very attractive at all. I also like their chibi forms too. Especailly Yuuhi's because any chibi with a headband with that kind of do, is just too cool to describe.
