All About Boys Be.....

I Love this anime. I love it so much that I even have a site about it. The index page was a wallpaper I made for my site. And the layout image was scanned by me. It's the cover of the Boys Be CD. Kyoichi and Chiharu are very cute no? But here is what Boys Be is about. Taken from my site. I hope you take a chance to watch it. It's awesome ^_^ and it's finally not a shoujo.

So what is this show really about exactly and how did it start?

Well, it all began way back in the year 1876. When one William S. Clark went to Japan to set up an agricultural school there. That school is now known as Hokkaido University. When it was time to give his speech to the boys of the school, his last words were, "Boys, be ambitious". Clark's famous last words became the title of the show. The authors of Boys Be... wrote in the first issues of the Manga that they wanted the boys to be ambitious, be brave, be true to their feelings... so in the end they can date "hot chicks" (yes, those are their words...)

First off, I would like to say that I've seen a couple of anime that are shounen. Yet, most if not all of them are action/drama series. I've never seen an anime yet that focused on the Boys side of a romance story, so that's why I thought Boys Be... was a great treat to watch.

Boys Be... is focused on 6 people. Three boys and three girls. The main character, Kanzaki Kyoichi is in love with his once childhood friend Nitta Chiharu... And it goes on from there, telling the story of 6 people and their memorable year in high school. It's a sweet anime. I don't know how else to describe it. It has 13 episodes and is divided into the seasons of the year... In the beginning it's spring with all the beautiful sakura blowing in the wind and by episode 13, it's winter. A perfect season to wipe away those past memories and heart breaks and have another "New" beginning as Spring time approaches yet again.

The Other characters are Makoto, the nice guy who's usually hentai and somewhat shy. Kenjo, who's an excellent baseball player, the jock, and the typical clueless guy, Yumi, who's the "nerd" of the group and who has an odd sense of humor and taste of clothing and last but not least, Aki who's your normal teenage girl who loves to watch rock concerts and go to kareoke clubs.

Boys Be... the anime, was directed by Shimoda Masami the director of another popular anime called Saber Marionette J. If you can find a story totally different from Boys Be... It would be Saber Marionette J. But then again, it does have some similarities as well if you think about it.. not much but it's there. Like for example, how both of the stories are centered around the men. In SMJ's case, a whole planet of men

Boys Be... and the manga was created and written by Tamakoshi Itabashi and Tamkoshi Hiroyuki

But really Boys Be.. is a great anime if I can repeat myself over and over again. It's romantic and sweet and it makes you go, "aww...". And it's also very funny. I can't forget that. The one real flaw of Boys Be... though, is that it offers a lot of "fan service". Fan service is a term that's used to tell us that there are many shots of girls' boobs, thighs, panty, and butt shots (but they are all clothed of course). Even the eye-catches are a thing to see. Most, if not all of them are live action shots of the top of girls' breasts or their legs or girls in swimsuits etc... (if you've seen Evangelion, that show's "fan service" is more extreme in my opinion), though it's not hentai or anything. I think it's pretty normal. It IS focused on Boys thoughts after all and it's geared mostly towards high-school and college males (It's a little like American Pie... Only animated. American Pie though is ALOT more hentai. Boys Be... is PG folks! Well, maybe PG-13). LOL, it was kinda funny though when Chiharu was in Kyoichi's room looking to borrow a CD and Kyoichi was staring at her butt and he almost got a nosebleed

Although the anime version of Boys Be... aired from April 11, 2000 to July 4, 2000, the manga/comic version has been going on for more than 6 years. Though the story lines are a bit different. I do hope you check it out as well

This is the explanation in the VCD and DVD boxes of Boys Be... I think it's sweet

At last released as an animation! A much anticipated production, Boys Be... carefully details the stories of 6 students in their school years. Refreshing, humourous, touching, sexy, it will definetely put tears in your eyes and warmth in your heart.

I came across Boys Be... when I went to the Philippines for a short vacation with my family. We were in the Narita Airport in Tokyo and I was looking around the shops they had there. Our flight was delayed for like 4 hours and so I had time to be bored. I first have to say though that Japan is EXPENSIVE! I went to buy a small coke and it cost me three bucks! And it was the size of a juice box. Anyway, so I went to the stores and I saw this small but thick magazine. It looked like a phone book ^_^ and what do you know? There it was, a Boys Be... magazine. It looked interesting. And the art looked nice. So I flipped through the pages and I remembered the Title... "Boys Be..." Then, while at my Uncle's house in Manila I was flipping through the channels... and there, in full color was Boys Be... I was kinda surprised. But so I watched it and from the moment those proverbs were said in the beginning of each show, I was hooked. It's such an awesome anime.
