Those ServersSo there are many servers out there that can be the home for your site. Geocities, Homestead, Tripod... Blah, blah, blah... Which ones piss us off?
This was Mizuki's idea, so this is her rant about Geocities....
MizukiI really hate geocities. It's not a place for people with sensible html knowledge. Plus, geocities shut down my Gundam Wing site periodicly throughout the day, so I got hosted. That's basicaly the only server I have ever used that has given me grief.
Aurora-hime
Dang, I really agree with Mizuki about Geocities. I used to have a Sailormoon site that was hosted in Geocities and one day it just shut down on me and it deleted all my files. I was SO MAD! I worked so hard on that site. It had so much information and I was typing all day and night. I saved the HTML though and I moved to another server that shut down on me too! So basically my Sailormoon site turned to dust. And at first I was thinking about doing it all over again but I just quit on it. You can never really do anything as good as the first time. ~Especially when you write about information on the characters.
There are some great servers though but they all have a con side to them... Because of that, here are a few of my opinions of them so you know what server to put your site in.
Geocities
*Con*: From our complaint above, Geocities is bad because it deletes your files without letting you know first. It also has those banners that appear in your frames and it makes it look ugly.
*Pro*: Is there really a pro for Geocities? Well, hmmm... The good thing about Geocities is that it's hardly ever down. You can see your stats in you file manager and how many people visited each one of your pages. It's also useful for beginners because of Pagebuilder. But I hate pagebuilder. It's evil. All I wanna say to you all who use this is learn HTML! Because it's a whole lot better.
Tripod
*Con* Both the banner and the pop up are annoying. Sometimes when you upload things in your files it usually a little slow.
*Pro* You can chose to have a banner or a popup. And this is useful because if you have frames, you don't have to have banners stuck inside them. It's usually fast and it's hardly ever down. One of my sites is in Tripod actually ~It's a mirror site for those who have netscape. But anyway, Tripod is great. Just that the popup gets a bit annoying.
*Homestead**Con* Ohhhh I hate homestead. It's really awful and I won't even bother putting a *Pro* section for it because there isn't anything *pro* about. It's a server for beginners. If you are lazy to learn HTML, then this is the server for you. I hate it.
Brinkster*Con* Sometimes if your site gets way too many visitors at a time Brinkster shuts your site down for an hour or for a whole day. This happened to one of my sites and I was so pissed. Sometimes you get "site not found" errors when going through a site even though the page is really there, so you have to refresh it a couple of times to make it appear.
*Pro* I like Brinkster actually. It's a great server descpite its cons. It hardly ever goes down, the uploading is easy, it's fast, no banner adds and I think its one of the best.
Well, that's it for now. More reviews of servers will be up soon.
