What makes a Good WPR Good?
Written By: Mizuki

After reading Asuka's review of Slayer Reviews (I completely agree with you, Asuka, by the way), I sat down in my thinking chair and thought about what she said. I came to the conclusion that most WPR's these days are really crappy. Their reviews are either too sugar coated or too bitchy. They don't give very good advice, either, which completely defeats the entire purpose of a WPR.

Web Page Review sites are supposed to help people make their websites better. Their real purpose is to give advice to people, not say "OMG!!!!! UR SITE IS SO GOOD EVEN THOUGH IT'S REALLY NOT!!!!!" or "THIS SITE SUCKS SO BADLY THAT U SHOULD GIVE UP WEBDESIGNING FOREVER BECAUSE YOU SUCK AT IT!!!!!!". Did either of those statements give advice for how to improve a site? No.

So what does make a good WPR good? First off, The reviewers have to know what they are talking about, and they must GIVE ADVICE. No sugar, no vinegar. Just honest advice. Take "Slayer Reviews", for instance. All they do is "bitch, bitch, bitch" (As quoted from Asuka), without giving advice. People submit their sites to WPR's to get another's opinion on how they can make their site better. Not on how they have such terrible graphics and html skills that they shouln't dare show their faces on the internet ever again.

If you are going to comment on the things done wrong on a site, at least give the webmaster credit for the things they did right! And vice versa. If you comment on just one, how is the webmaster going to know how to fix the problems?

Do you have an interest in making a WPR? Or do you already have one but think you are doing something wrong? My advice to you is to forget the sugar coating and the bitchyness. Only concentrate on just advice and helping people make their sites better. Oh, and be sure to take your own advice, as well.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with being opinionated, hell, it's a good thing. But you must have reasons for your opinions, and with opinions, has to come truth as well. And if you only have a WPR to get your opinions out there (rather then help people with their sites), then you have a WPR for the wrong reasons. If you just want to have your opinions on things, well, that's what Rant pages are for, not Web Page Review Sites.

P.S: I did not mean to offend the people at Slayers Reviews. I used their wpr as an example because they are a good example for my rant. That's all. I have nothing against them at all. Please don't flood Aurora-hime's inbox with flames. Everything in this rant reflects my opinions, not hers or anyone elses.
